Looking to 2012

Good morning cake lovers, we here at Sassas Cakes hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and have recovered enough to enjoy the New Year!
Its been very chilled out for us, which is quite a rare thing to be honest. It wont last long though, as we are planning a major attack on the wedding cake market in 2012.
We had a good number of weddings this year and managed it without too much advertising. For 2012 we have targeted some high caliber wedding magazines and websites, so you might just see us popping up all over the place! Along with this we will be showing our wonderful cakes at some of Norfolks wedding faires. So if you see us, come over and say hello and see what we can offer you.
Have a great New Years eve and we will see you in 2012.

Wedding Fayre

Morning all.

We spent most of yesterday at a Wedding Fayre at Elm Farm Country House, our first venture into this mode of spreading our name. Went pretty well, with quite a bit of interest in our cakes and cake pops, only time will tell how successful it was. I wont comment until the orders come in!
We met up with lots of friendly people both offering their services and looking for them. Quite a fun day in all.
A big thank you to Steve at Elm Farm for putting it together.

This coming week is looking quiet so we can start to put together our Christmas cakes and cupcakes for the website, which i might add has just been seriously updated with lots of new photos.
I have very kindly been given a bottle of Snap Dragon beer by Northcote Brewery to add to the mix of a very special fruit cake. Its going to be a real winter warmer of a cake full of nuts and Northcotes dark and tasty 6% proof ale. I can wait!
Ive also put together a very festive fruit cake made with cranberries, figs, dates mixed nuts, a hint of orange and plenty of French Brandy. The test cake is going down a treat with all who have sampled it. To be honest thats mostly been me!
Well i must get, there is always some thing to do. Take care and see you soon.Write your post here.

Back to Work Again!

Hi there all and every one.
We are back from our wonderful week in the Yorkshire Dales. It was bliss, no computers, no phone calls and no television,

I will just apologies to the potential customers that did try and contact us about cakes. Sorry we did not manage to get back to you right away and sorry we couldnt help this time around.

Yes, it was a great week and we did drop into some very nice tea rooms and cafes. All in the name of research you see. One must try as much cake as possible if you are to keep ahead of the competition!

One special recommendation is the Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton. If you are in the area of Leyburn and fancy a great fish restaurant, this is the place to go. Great food and service. We even had a table next to an actor from Emmerdale. But as we dont watch it we were none the wiser!

Thats it for holidays for now and it was back to the oven this afternoon. Its not too busy a week this week so we are not straight back into the cut and thrust of it just yet. Thank goodness.

Dont forget that we are taking Christmas orders now so if you are thinking of having a party get in touch with us soon so we can get you booked in.
That also goes the same for weddings, next year is getting closer all the time and you dont want to leave your cake till the last minute, do you?

Take care and i will be back behind the keypad soon.Write your post here.

NEWS FLASH

Yes, Sassa's Cakes is still going strong and as busy as ever. Thats why i havent blogged for over three months! Thought i would just drop a few lines because a customer was in some doubt as to whether we still existed due to the date on my last blog!

It has been a very busy summer, plenty of weddings to get our teeth into and a good mix of styles colours and designs. Its been a good mix of cakes and cupcake towers. Whats encouraging is that this was our first big summer of wedding cakes and we have had very good feedback from our customers. We are now looking forward to next season and already have a few bookings. So give us a call soon before we get fully booked!

The highlight of the year for me so far has to be the fantastic 'dress' cake. Its got be the best cake Debbie has made so far and i can just see it being turned into a wedding cake. I dont think that it is on our website yet but its on our face book page and on twitter. So if you want to be amazed and fancy a wedding cake with a difference, take a look, you wont be disappointed!

After such a busy summer we have just about found a bit of time to get away from mixer, oven and spatula. Its off to Yorkshire for a week of chilling out, walking and drinking red wine. Fantastic. Dont worry we can still be contacted by email if you wish to place any orders for later in November or beyond. Or if you do call us our house sitters may well take a message.

Before i go, may i just remind you that Christmas is closing in and i have started taking orders for Christmas cakes (the fruit has been soaking in brandy for a month so far!).

Bye for now.

DOH!

No blog since July... so i write an update... and then delete it...!

If you can wait until tomorrow i will try again and fill you in on all our latest cake creations.

Bye for now.

The Latest From Sassa's

Hi there,

Well its been a busy couple of days, culminating in two weddings this weekend.
The Boss and i had a full on day baking up 100 cupcakes and five, three layer Victoria sponges. Now thats quite a bin full of egg shells i can tell you. Our kitchen looked a little like a scene from  David a Attenborough programme about turtles hatching on a far off beach in the tropics. Except we dont have any sand in our kitchen, or sea, or turtles for that matter. But you get the gist dont you?

The Boss made a rather splendid cake last week, for a young mans birthday. The young mans mother wanted a pair of breasts as a cake because 'thats all he thinks about'. What can i say! They or should i say it, the cake, did look very fine.

The Boss had a couple of wedding consultations and she worked her magic so we now have another two weddings to provide cakes for. From the sound of it the last one is one that she will really enjoy creating. Its some thing a little different.

The funny thing is that i am on holiday from the 'other job' but working full time for the Boss here at Sassa's. Is great that things are so busy but will she let me have a little 'R&R' time? Maybe if i get all my jobs done first!

Right, i must sign off now as there is more work to be done.

Bye.Write your post here.

Last weeks goings on!

Hi there.
Ive just got a few spare minutes so i thought i would type a line or two.
Yet another busy weekend which included setting up 150 beautiful cupcakes for a wedding blessing at NCFC. Thats got to have been the first time i have set foot in a football ground. Is that not natural for a bloke? Mind you i do spend my spare time in a pinny baking tasty cakes for Debbie to turn into wonderful creations.  Now is that not natural for a bloke!
Any way, we set the cupcake tower up and it all looked great and you will be able to see some pictures of it on Twitter and Facebook and soon on our site.
Had a bit of a day off from baking the other day so i sat myself down to view some of the Tour de France. A little bit of self indulgence for me as i do like a bit of lycra! Those boys may be pretty fast on two wheels but by the look of them they could all do with a slab of one of our cakes. That would sort them out!

Well i have to go now as we have more serious work to do.

Here We Go Again!

Hello again.
We have just got back from a short break in the West Country and very nice it was too, especially that special apple juice they brew for big people!

Even though we took a week away from the cake making it didnt stop us from answering emails and working out quotes for you, our wonderful customers. I guess it makes it a bit easier when still sat in bed with tea and Ipad and toast.

It also dawned on us that we have now been in business just over a year, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to us, and what a year its been too. The first 9 months we spent trying to establish ourselves and find a niche in popular cupcake market place and pick up a few weddings.
Since the start of this year we have had a slight change of tack and a huge growth in customers. Which is nice!
As you can all see from our gallery we now produce many and varied bespoke cakes for all sorts of events. And as for weddings, we are looking very good at the moment and for the next two months.

Debbie will be working full time on the cake creative front from mid July so we should be able to cope with a few more orders, or we may just be able to get a day a week off to catch up with normal life stuff.

Dont forget to keep an eye out for us on twitter and face book as i often post photos of Debbies latest creations before they get onto our web site.

Right then, the oven is back on, the mixer has been dusted down and a fresh pinny awaits. Here we go, round two!

More News from the Man with a Mixer.

Hi there, its been a while since i last posted any ramblings from behind the oven. We have been very busy and hardly had time to think!

The big news is that as of August we will be able to take on more work and should be able to respond to your cake inquiries sooner than before. So if we have had to turn you away in the past because we are fully booked, well that is about to change. Unless we get so much work we still cant fit you in. In which case, sorry! Remember, try and give us at least two weeks notice on large cakes. As for cupcakes, just call us and see what we can do.

July is a month of weddings for us, which is nice. So you will see are wedding cake portfolio grow over the summer.
For a bit of a change Debbie is after a wedding cake that is full of colour and far from the traditional style. So if you are feeling daring give us a call with your crazy colourful ideas and Debbie will get to work on it.

Sad times in the kitchen for me but also very exciting. After a year of use our first mixer has been put out to grass as it is no longer able to cope with the strain of constant use! But we have replaced it with some thing bigger and better and very shiny indeed. Some thing i like very much (should i get out more often. I used to get excited about shiny bike bits. Now its new heavy duty mixers, what have i become?)

There are also some interesting projects in the pipeline, one of which will raise the bar of fancy cake making in Norfolk. For those of you who thought the Gucci bag was good, watch this web site during October!!

Well that will do for now, pinney back on and back to the oven.

The latest news from behind the oven!

Hello again, its been a long time since i last posted any thing and thats because we just haven t had any time. It seems you all want cake. Cake for birthdays, cake for christenings, cake for openings!

Yes we have been very busy.
You may have seen childrens TV presenter Katy Ashworth cutting into a rather large cake in Thursday 17th March Evening News. That was one of four cakes we made for the Sure Start Childrens Centre. We also have another event for them coming up at the end of the month which involves 200 cupcakes!

Today we have delivered two NCFC shirt birthday cakes. So happy birthday to two City fans, Harry 16 and Omar 7.

On Saturday we set up a delightful cupcake tower for a wedding in Coltishall. Very nice.
While in Coltishall we dropped in to 'A Piece of Cake' cafe and met some lovely friendly people. We recommend that you give them a look if you are out that way.

Weddings are in full swing at the moment and we have had  several wedding consultations with some of our customers. With our first wedding cake booked for two weeks away there is going to be no rest for us here at Sassa's Cakes.

Till the next time i have five minutes to spare.

The man in the pinnie.
